Car drives into construction pit in downtown Toronto

A car ended up in a construction pit near Union Station on Thursday evening in the second such incident near the station in just over a month.

Witness Maribel Lino had just arrived from New York City when she saw the car fly into the pit, near Front and Bay streets, at about 7 p.m.

"The car literally flew over [workers'] heads and they were working there at the time," she said.

She said the pedestrian hurt herself avoiding the car, but that the two women who had been in the car seemed fine.

In late June, a car drove into a hole at Union Station while making a left turn from University Avenue onto Front Street West at about 3 a.m.
