Injury problems continue to mount for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Brett Lawrie, the club's sparkplug third baseman, was pulled from Friday night's road game against the Oakland A's in the middle of the first inning.

He apparently suffered a tightness or other injury to his rib cage during an eight-pitch at-bat, one that saw him eventually strike out looking after fouling the ball off three times.

Omar Vizquel took over at third.

Toronto has had a slew of injury problems this season, including to three starting pitchers, star slugger Jose Bautista and catcher J.P. Arencibia.
