A 39-year-old Vancouver man has been sentenced to 25 years in a New York prison for sexually assaulting a woman in 2008.
Greg Poirier was convicted of following the woman into her apartment building, pushing her into her home and assaulting her.
Poirier was working as a truck driver in New York at the time.
He's already serving another five years in a similar, separate case.
He was given the maximum sentence, but told the Manhattan judge that it didn't matter to him because he plans to appeal.
Defence lawyer Hershel Katz says Poirier maintains his innocence.
He says he is being mistreated by the U.S. justice system and that his native beliefs are not being respected.
