TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (11,853.61 up 15.28points):

DeeThree Exploration Ltd. (TSX:DTX). Oil and gas. Up 19 cents, or 4.13 per cent, at $4.79 on 32,192,532 shares. The Calgary-based company returned to profitability in the second quarter. It booked $5.6 million or eight cents per share, a reversal from year-ago's loss of $899,000 or a penny per share. Oil and natural gas revenues nearly doubled to $18.4 million from $9.5 million.

Uranium One Inc. (TSX:UUU). Miner. Up 19 cents, or 9.05 per cent, at $2.29 on 6,768,639 shares. The Toronto-based miner posted Monday second-quarter profits of $29.2 million or three cents per share, dipping slightly from $29.7 million or three cents per share it earned in the same period last year. Revenue totalled $96.8 million, down from $112.9 million.

Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Bank. Up $1.08, or 2.12 per cent, at $51.98 on 4,639,765 shares. The financial sector led the advancers on the main index, up 0.64 per cent.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 13 cents, or 1.16 per cent, at $11.36 on 3,835,010 shares.

Progress Energy Resources Corp. (TSX:PRQ). Oil and gas. Down 12 cents, or 0.54 per cent, at $22.10 on 3,690,247 shares. The energy sector was also one of the advancers, up 0.44 per cent, as price of crude oil for September contract ended the day at US$93.43, up 70 cents.

Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT). Grain handler. Down a penny, or 0.06 per cent, at $16.14 on 3,478,983 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,197.01 down 0.36 point):

Porto Energy Corp. (TSXV:PEC). Oil and gas. Up 2.5 cents, or 27.78 per cent, at 11.5 cents on 6,751,263 shares.

Spanish Mountain Gold Ltd. (TSXV:SPA). Mining exploration/developer. Up three cents, or 8.33 per cents at 39 cents on 4,426,360 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Agrium (TSX:AGU). Fertilizer. Up 40 cents, or 0.42 per cent, at $95.93 on 594,258 shares. The fertilizer giant said it is not sellling its retail division despite reports that New York hedge fund Jana Partners, which has a four per cent stake in Agrium, is pushing the company for the retail division's sale.

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (TSX:ATD.B). Convenience store. Down 29 cents, or 0.58 per cent, at $50 on 402,515 shares. The Montreal-based company bought 29 Circle K stores from Florida Oil Holdings for an undisclosed price, boosting the number of company-operated stores in Florida to 406.

SouthGobi Resources Ltd. (TSX:SGQ). Miner. Down 84 cents, or 22.70 per cent, at $2.86 on 259,842 shares. The stock closed at its lowest since 2007 a day after CEO Alexander Molyneux said that a US$925-million takeover attempt by Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd. (Chalco) may fall through.
