Canadian men qualify for 4x100m relay final

The Canadian men's 4x100-metre team advanced to Saturday’s final after a solid run against a strong field.

Canada, a squad comprised of Gavin Smelllie, Sam Effan, Jared Connoughton and Justyn Warner, finished second in its heat with a time of 38.05.

The Olympic champion Jamaicans easily won heat in 37.49.

Great Britain, the No. 4-ranked team in the world, were disqualified for an illegal exchange.

The U.S. men, attempting to regain their Olympic title, posted the fastest overall time in the second heat, clocking at time of 37.38.
