EDMONTON - A government spokesman says flags will be flown at half mast for a slain Alberta peace officer on the day of his funeral.

Josh Stewart in the Justice Department says flags will be lowered at government offices in the community where the service for Rod Lazenby is held.

Stewart says that follows provincial protocol that applies to all law enforcement officers and soldiers.

A member of the Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers says he is unhappy that flags haven't been flying at half mast for his slain colleague.

Dwight Dawn says his group put in a request but the province denied it without explanation.

Lazenby died on Friday after he responded to a complaint at a property in southwestern Alberta.
