Olympian excited to see medal from boy

Jared Connaughton, whose team was denied a bronze medal after being disqualified from the 4x100m relay at the Olympics, is looking forward to seeing a consolation medal offered by a Newfoundland boy.

After watching the 4x100m final Saturday, ten-year-old Elijah Porter sent the team a medal he won for playing soccer .

"I just felt that I had a way that I could make them feel better," said Elijah.

He had a chance to speak directly to Jared Connaughton, who ran the third leg of the race, on CBC P.E.I.'s Island Morning on Wednesday.

"I'm excited to see it. I saw it on Twitter in the airport in Halifax," said Connaughton.

"The support from the nation after a really incredibly difficult moment for me and my teammates is a testament to how much Canadians care about each other. This is a shining example of that."

The Canadian team was disqualified after Connaughton stepped on the line of his lane just before handing off the baton.
