Scooter Friendly Fashion: Ride In Style

How to Ride Your Scooter in Style
TheKit

Scooters have been all the rage this summer and will surely stay on until fall. It’s obvious why they’re such a hit, they practically ooze nostalgia: summers in romantic cities like Rome and Paris—that European carefree-ness (think: Diane Lane in Under The Tuscan Sun). They are so popular here in Toronto, and they just must be catching on across Canada. Even better, they make everyone look fashionable. Almost anyone looks wonderfully mysterious on a scooter—especially Vespas, and my new brand favourite with the same vintage shape, Stellas.

But the question I always ask myself when seeing these stylish scooter riders across town: how do you coordinate your outfits and avoid clashing with your favourite seasonal ride?

“Go with a colour that matches most of your wardrobe. People don’t normally match their entire outfits to their scooters, it’s a little over the top,” says Clyde Grey, general manager at specialty bike and scooter store in Toronto, Motoretta. The scooter and bike shop also has a nice selection of men's and women's Fred Perry clothing. He says dressing head-to-toe to match your scooter is pretty much taboo for avid bikers and that stylish buyers in the market for a new ride should choose a versatile colour that suits their entire wardrobe, making matching your day and night clothes really easy.

So, with that in mind, we picked three great bikes with daytime clothing options to match.

Which scooter suits your style?

Timeless Colour, Vespa Green

Get a hue that is a hit every season: a light army or pistachio green. The colour matches almost anything, especially denim. Wear dresses that are loose but flattering—and not too long. This denim one is just above the knee and oh-so-apropos.

Black is Back, Royal Enfield

This vintage-looking motorcycle has the Rock 'N' Roll look that spells out sex appeal. If you lean towards the dark and brooding side of fashion, this rebel ride is the ride for you.

The Royal Enfield Motorcycle, $6,295, motoretta.ca

Perfect Canvas, Stella Creme

Forget all of the Labour Day rules, sport white all season long with a scooter that is a blank canvas for bright colours, pastels, prints and every sartorial combo you can think of. A breezy blouse and pants with stretch let you hop off and on your bike without breaking a sweat.
