Montreal police are investigating after a 22-year-old man was shot and killed in a residential neighbourhood Friday night.

The shooting happened in Lachine neighbourhood Ville Saint-Pierre, near the corner of Milton Avenue and des Érables Street.

Witnesses called police after hearing gunshots just after 9 p.m.

Montreal police spokesperson Constable Anthony Cantelmi said when officers arrived on the scene, they found the man, who was known to police, lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

"He was rapidly transported to hospital but was declared dead at hospital by doctors. Two suspects were seen fleeing the scene rapidly after the gunshots," he said.
