Teen girl dies after being hit by truck in Sutton

A teenage girl was fatally injured when she was hit by a pickup truck in Sutton on Saturday night.

York Regional Police Insp. Chris Bullen told CBC News that police were called to a scene near Dalton and Base Line roads at about 11:15 p.m., where a pedestrian had apparently been struck.

Bullen said a 17-year-old girl was taken to Southlake Regional Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver fled the scene after the collision, but Bullen said the vehicle was located on Sunday morning and the driver identified.

Police tweeted that a 27-year-old man had been taken into custody.

Sutton is located just east of Georgina on the edge of Lake Simcoe.
