A 27-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and stunt driving after the truck he was driving fatally struck a teen girl standing in the front yard of a home in Sutton.

The collision occurred at around 11 p.m. Saturday, when a black 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was "travelling in an erratic manner" southbound on Dalton Road near Black River Road crossed the centre line and struck the 17-year-old girl, York Regional Police said in a Monday release.

The girl was taken to hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver fled the scene after the collision, but he was arrested Sunday morning without incident.

In addition to the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and stunt driving counts, the man has been charged with:

- Dangerous operation of a vehicle.

- Failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

- Failure to report an accident.

Sutton is located on the east side of the town of Georgina on the edge of Lake Simcoe.
