WINNIPEG - Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger has a new chief of staff — someone for whom politics runs in the family.

Liam Martin has been chosen to be the premier's new right-hand person.

He replaces Michael Balagus, who resigned earlier this year.

Martin is the son of NDP MP Pat Martin and once worked as a constituency assistant and tour co-ordinator for former premier Gary Doer.

Liam Martin also worked on NDP election campaigns as an event co-ordinator and in the party's war room.

More recently, Martin has served as the communications representative for the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

He was also nominated by the government earlier this year to the board of directors of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
