The fire appeared shortly after 4 p.m. PT on Mount Fromme, several hundred metres from any residences.
CBC News received several reports from people driving on the Upper Levels Highway about the plume of smoke on the mountain, which also could be seen from downtown Vancouver.
The fire, which appeared to be a few hundred square metres in size, was doused with several buckets of water from a B.C. Forest Services helicopter and was out by 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
