Langley Project X party quashed

Police in Langley, B.C., say efforts to snuff out a mega-party before it began were successful.

Last week, more than 2,000 people responded to a Facebook page, saying they would attend the so-called Project X party in a quiet cul-de-sac in Walnut Grove on Saturday.

About 24 RCMP officers set up three different roadblocks in the area, warding off a few cars full of teenagers coming to take a look.

Police say for the most part, the quiet suburb remained quiet.

"The intel-gathering and the patrols that we did early on — we've spoken to several of the neighbours, the partnership with the community at large, the partnership certainly with the media outlets has been fantastic," said Const. Craig Van Herk.

"We're seeing now not a huge party, a huge issue, everything's fairly safe."

Many people in the neighbourhood believed the party was a hoax.
