Hot weather prompts heat alert in Toronto

A heat alert has been declared for the City of Toronto on a day when the mercury is expected to hit 33 C.

Members of the public are advised to check in on friends and family to make sure they are staying cool and drinking plenty of fluids.

A notice from the city says that isolated adults and seniors are at greater risk of suffering heat-related illnesses, as are infants and young children

The heat alert remains in effect until further notice.
