Three Toronto police officers are each facing charges of assault causing bodily harm after a man suffered injuries while under arrest earlier this year.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says that a 26-year-old man was arrested near Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue West on the evening of June 4.
According to the SIU, there was an interaction between the officers and the man.
The man was held in a cell, but later taken to hospital after complaining of a sore chest.
He was subsequently diagnosed with three broken ribs.
After an investigation, the three officers are now facing charges.
The accused officers are due to appear in a Toronto court on Oct. 9.
The SIU investigates reports involving police in which death or serious injury result, or in which allegations of sexual assault are raised.
