A Vancouver minor league hockey coach has been criminally charged after a video appeared to show him tripping teenage players from an opposing team.
Martin Tremblay, coach of the UBC Hornets, has been charged with two counts of assault, Neil Mackenzie, a Crown spokesman, told The Huffington Post B.C.
Video taken after the gold medal game of the league's spring season in June shows Tremblay lining up to shake hands with the opposing team, as is post-game custom. But the footage shows a man appearing to deliberately swing his leg out and trip players from the Richmond Steel.
Two boys fell to the ice. One was unharmed while a 13-year-old suffered a broken wrist, reported CTV News.
Tremblay and his team won the gold medal match.
The coach is scheduled to appear in Richmond provincial court on Sept. 13.
