An 84-year-old Kamloops, B.C., woman is recovering after a dog attack left her with 98 stitches.

Mary Gural says she and her husband were leaving a fast food restaurant on Sunday afternoon when they spotted a Rottweiler nearby.

Gural says they were trying to steer clear of the dog when it lunged.

“We were about 10 feet away from him and he took one flying leap and knocked me down and I banged my head,” she said.

“Next thing we knew he grabbing my arm, otherwise it would have been my face. Instinct told me to put my arm up."

Gural was treated in hospital for a bite to her left arm and later released.

The dog, which police say bit a letter carrier in June, has been put down by Kamloops bylaw officers.
