Jag Johal Dead: Surrey Gangster Gunned Down In Front Of Family

Gangster Gunned Down In Surrey

The brother of a recently convicted cocaine smuggler was shot to death in front of his wife and child in a busy Surrey plaza.

Jag Johal, 37, is a gang associate who was gunned down Thursday afternoon as he sat in the passenger side of a car in a parking lot at 68th Avenue and King George Boulevard.

Johal was "known to police," Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed in a news release on Thursday.

Johal’s brother, Shminder Johal, was sentenced to 18 years in prison in July for smuggling drugs and guns into B.C., according to the Vancouver Sun. A Canada Border Services Agency guard was also given a lengthy prison sentence for his role in the smuggling ring.

Jag Johal died of his injuries in hospital, said the Sun. His wife and four-year-old son were not harmed.

"This apparent targeted shooting occurred in broad daylight in a highly populated public area where many businesses are location. The potential for further victims was high and this selfish act of violence is not taken lightly by investigators," said Pound.
