Port Moody shooting leaves 1 dead

A 32-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Port Moody, B.C., Saturday morning.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital after being shot inside a home in the 900 block of Wallace Wynd, in the Glenayre neighbourhood, just after 10 a.m. PT. He died later in hospital.

Const. Luke van Winkel says the man was known to Port Moody Police.

“The choices he’s made through life have put him in contact with police for a variety of reasons,” he said.

“I can’t go into particulars as to whether it’s gangs or drugs or things like that at this time … Once we are able to release his name, you’ll get a better picture of his background and why he’s known.”

The Vancouver Police Department has taken over the investigation. Sgt. Randy Fincham says early indications suggest it was a targeted hit but no suspects have been identified.

This is Port Moody’s third homicide of 2012.
