HALIFAX - The Halifax region is getting a new police chief.

Regional council has approved a recommendation to appoint Jean-Michel Blais to the post.

Blais is currently the chief superintendent in charge of the Halifax district RCMP.

He has served in leadership roles in the RCMP for the past 25 years, including three missions to Haiti while seconded to the United Nations.

He assumes his new role Oct 10.

Blais replaces Frank Beazley, who retired from the force earlier this month after 42 years of service.
