Suspicious package in Victoria contained only a T-shirt

A suspicious package found on a transit bus in downtown Victoria that triggered an evacuation of several buildings turned out to only contain a T-shirt and non-threatening note, police say.

Police ordered people out of the Finance Ministry building on Government Street, the Royal B.C. Museum and the Legislature's East Annex and cordoned off a one-block radius around the vehicle after the package was discovered during the supper hour Monday.

A bomb squad was brought over from Vancouver on the 9 o'clock ferry and X-rayed the package to determine if it was a threat.

"The package was removed and opened to reveal a t-shirt and non-threatening note inside. The package does not appear to have been left to cause a concern and charges are not likely," said a statement issued by Victoria police.
