Peter Lougheed Dead: Twitter Reacts To Passing Of Former Alberta Premier

He was known as "Mr. Alberta." The last true statesman. A worthy "adversary" for Pierre Trudeau during the former prime minister's era. Peter Lougheed, former Alberta Premier died in hospital on Thursday night.

The beloved former Alberta politician died Thursday at age 84 of natural causes, according to a statement released by his family. News of his death spread quickly on Twitter, with some prominent Canadian names expressing their sympathy and sorrow at Lougheed's passing.

Jason Kenney, Canada's Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, tweeted: "I am saddened to learn of the death of one of Canada's greatest Premiers, Peter Lougheed. He will be fondly remembered by Albertans & CDNs."

TV Ontario's Steve Paikin of 'the (sic) best canadian premier of the last 40 years has died. RIP peter lougheed."

And everyday Canadians expressed their loss and admiration as well: "Rest in Peace, Mr Lougheed. You are a shining example of what Albertans can strive to become," tweeted @alisonborealis.
