GAMBO, N.L. - Officials are warning residents after recent black bear sightings in northeastern Newfoundland.

The province's Natural Resources Department says Gambo and Glovertown residents are being urged to properly store and dispose of garbage.

They say garbage stored in open or wooden boxes can quickly attract the bears.

The department says anyone spotting a bear should remain calm, back away slowly, avoid eye contact and do not run away.
