Northern Ontario man charged in Vancouver woman's death

A charge of careless driving has been laid against a northern Ontario man whose pickup truck struck and killed a Vancouver woman last month.

Saoirse Sankey, 20, was walking along the north shoulder of the Trans-Canada Highway near Coniston, Ont., when she was hit by the westbound pickup truck on Aug. 31.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ontario Provincial Police said an 18-year-old man from Lively, Ont., has since been charged with careless driving.

He is due to appear in a Sudbury court in November.
