Jack Layton had a tree planted in his memory in Windsor's Ford City Community Garden.

Windsor West NDP MP Brian Masse said it represents what the late NDP leader stood for.

"I know Jack would've been really honoured, in a really humble way," Masse said. "Having the fruit trees as just a perfect symbol of what he wanted to do. He wanted a better environment and he wanted more of a nurturing environment for all of us."

Other local New Democrats, including MP Joe Comartin and MPP Taras Natyshak, were there for the planting on the weekend.
