Man wounded in weekend shooting, police seek information

Toronto police are seeking information about a weekend shooting in which shots were fired from one vehicle at another.

Police say they were called to the McCowan Road and Ellesmere Road area at 7:47 p.m. on Saturday, after reported gunshots.

According to police, a person or persons inside a grey or silver vehicle fired “several gunshots” at a red vehicle.

A man was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Police have been dealing with an increased number of shootings in the City of Toronto compared to last year.

Preliminary statistics posted on the police website indicate that 174 shootings have occurred in Toronto since the start of the year, as of Monday morning.

That's an increase of about 10.8 per cent above the number of shootings at the same point in 2011.
