A three-alarm McKenzie Towne condo fire that destroyed dozens of units, vehicles and construction equipment, and that lit up the Calgary sky over the weekend is now being considered suspicious.
Three young men are now being sought in connection to the blaze, said the Calgary Police Service.
The blaze tore through the 600 block of McKenzie Towne Dr. S.E. around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, destroying a condo complex that was still under construction.
Photos released by the CPS, which confirms the arson unit is now handling the investigation, shows three men in close proximity to the fire as flames arch into the night sky.
“The cause of the fire is still yet to be determined. However, the Arson Unit is investigating,” said the CPS in a release.
“Investigators believe three young men in the area at the time the fire occurred may have more information.”
Early estimates peg the total cost of the fire, which destroyed 22 units and damaged 13 others, between $3 million and $4 million.
Cars and construction equipments parked in the vicinity were also damaged by the intense heat.
