RED DEER, Alta. - A preliminary hearing has been set for a man who was charged with murder after a disabled central Alberta woman died in an explosion.

Brian Malley, 55, is charged with the first-degree murder of Vicky Shachtay.

The 23-year-old woman was killed last November after a package that was delivered to her Innisfail home exploded.

She was confined to a wheelchair after a car accident in 2004.

A three-week preliminary hearing is to begin next Sept. 9 in Red Deer court.

Malley has been out on bail since June.

Shachtay is survived by her seven-year-old daughter. (CHUB, CKGY)
