Alberta bans fires in southern and northwest parts of the province

EDMONTON - A fire ban has been imposed on parts of southern and northwestern Alberta because of increased risk of wildfires.

In the south, the ban covers areas north and east of Waterton Lakes National Park up to near the Red Deer River.

In the northwest, fires are banned around Grande Prairie and up to Paddle Prairie.

The wildfire danger is these areas ranges from very high to extreme because of warm temperatures and low humidity.

The weather forecast for the weekend is calling for hot, sunny weather for much of Alberta.
