A 48-year-old man is in police custody after he led officers on a bizarre chase through the streets of Montreal overnight.

Montreal police said the incident started in Cote-Saint-Luc when shots were fired at a 58-year-old man on the corner of Borden and Fleet streets at around 7 p.m.

The shooter then fled in a car.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle heading north of Decarie Boulevard and a chase ensued that lasted several hours.

At one point the suspect's car collided with another vehicle, as did the police cruiser following him.

Montreal police Const. Simon Delorme said the man then abandoned the car and ran from the scene.

"The pursuit continued [on foot] and the police officers tried to stop the man and a major perimeter was erected," he said.

The suspect slipped through that police perimeter, but was later located in Laval around 1 a.m.

Delorme says the man could face a host of charges ranging from attempted murder to dangerous driving.
