Three young men have had their high-end cars impounded after RCMP caught them street racing in Chilliwack.

Police received complaints on Saturday afternoon that four vehicles were going more than 130 km/h on Highway 1 eastbound, said RCMP in a news release.

Witnesses told investigators that the cars were passing other vehicles on the road's shoulder and were weaving in and out of traffic.

RCMP officers saw the cars trying to drive slowly and block traffic from passing. "Racing drivers will work together to prevent other traffic from passing to allow the racing vehicles a clear area to gain high rates of speed," explained Sgt. Peter Thiessen.

A 2013 Audi S5, 2013 Land Rover and 2011 BMW 328i were all impounded.

The drivers of those vehicles were three men, aged 19 to 20 years old, who all currently live in Richmond. Only one had a valid B.C. driver's licence. The other two had Chinese national driver's licences that are valid in the province only while they attend school.

The trio were charged with driving without reasonable consideration, which carries a $196 fine. Their licences were also suspended for 15 days with the possibility of further suspension.
