WINNIPEG - The mayor of Winnipeg has accepted an auditor's recommendation for an outside review of a land swap which has angered members of city council.

The deal surrounds a verbal agreement involving the city's fire chief and a Winnipeg developer to swap two old fire halls and some land for a property where a new fire hall now stands.

City councillors have argued that they were never asked about the agreement, and a vote on the land exchange has still not been held.

Earlier this month, Mayor Sam Katz (KAYTZ) asked the city's chief financial officer to review the deal in the face of stiff criticism.

But Katz says he's now accepted a recommendation from city auditor Brian Whiteside to hire external industry experts to help review the proposed deal.

A timeline for the review is expected to be announced in the near future.(CJOB)
