Brossard water main break triggers boil water advisory

A water main break caused a flood in a residential area of Brossard overnight, prompting a boil water advisory for residents in the area.

Several inches of water flooded Sorbonne Street after the underground main burst overnight Tuesday.

The water flow was stopped before extensive damage occurred.

The Marie-Victorin school board suspended classes for the day at Pierre Brosseau high school because of the flooding.

Residents on Sorbonne Street between Pelletier Boulevard and Rivard Boulevard were advised to boil their water for one minute before drinking as a precaution while the necessary repairs are made.

Last week, nearly 200,000 residents on the South Shore were subject to a boil water advisory after a water main broke in Longueuil.

In that case, engineers pointed to errors made at the time of construction as the likely cause of the break.
