Toddler found dead at St-Jean-sur-Richelieu daycare

An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of death of a toddler found lifeless in a crib at a St-Jean-sur-Richelieu daycare yesterday.

The child, who was about two years old, was found not breathing during an afternoon nap. Emergency officials tried to resuscitate the toddler, but were not successful.

The child was pronounced dead at the Haut-Richelieu hospital.

The daycare operator was also taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

Local and provincial police are now investigating.

A coroner's investigation has also been launched because the cause of death is unclear.
