Mini-van crashes into Surrey home, sparks small fire

Police in Surrey, B.C., are investigating after a mini-van crashed into a basement suite early Saturday morning, seriously injuring one person and sparking a small fire in the home.

Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Warren Tyson said the crash happened at about 3 a.m. PT in the 7200 block of 125th Street.

"Once the vehicle struck the house, it caused something to ignite," Tyson said.

"Whether it was the vehicle or a portion of the house that ignited, I'm not sure, but something significantly ignited resulting in a fire to the house."

He said one person in the basement suite was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
