A fire broke out in a warehouse in Winnipeg's St. Boniface neighbourhood Monday at around 5 p.m., sending plumes of smoke and fireballs into the air, Global News reports.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at Speedway International, which houses fuel used for car racing.
No one was in the building when the blaze began, according to the Canadian Press.
"Numerous roadways in the surrounding area have been closed to all traffic," a statement by the Winnipeg police announced. "As a result of the fire, some evacuations in the immediate area have already occurred."
Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area for safety reasons, CBC reported. But many Twitter users could view the smoky scene at a distance and posted photos of the blaze.
