Man shot in Parkdale parkette on murder anniversary

Toronto police have confirmed that a young man was shot Thursday night during a vigil for a murder victim killed in the same spot exactly two years ago.

Thursday's victim was hit in the leg near Queen Victoria Public School in Parkdale at roughly 7 p.m. ET and rushed to hospital.

The young man was targeted at Close Avenue Parkette near King Street West and Jameson Avenue, where two years ago 20-year-old Sultan Dailey was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say the shooting survivor, like others at the scene, has not been cooperative.

"There were several people that were seen fleeing the area, however none of them are coming forward with information to assist our investigation," Sgt. Stacey Davis told CBC reporter Kimberly Gale.

Gale described the scene as "eerily quiet" in the hours following Thursday's shooting.

Police are still investigating, and have not yet released suspect information.
