Rex Murphy slammed Tory MP Rob Anders on "The National" Thursday night for suggesting NDP leader Thomas Mulcair helped "hasten" Jack Layton's death.

Murphy is just the latest to call for Anders' resignation this week after a series of gaffes which have badly damaged the the Calgary West MP's already-tattered reputation.

Murphy positioned Anders' comments on Mulcair and Layton as part of a recent trend toward declining decorum among Parliamentarians, citing Justin Trudeau calling Environment Minister Peter Kent a "piece of shit" and Public Safety Minister Vic Toews comparing those who opposed the Tories online-spying bill with child pornographers as examples.

The CBC personality delivered a barrage of verbiage aimed at Anders which culminated in the suggestion the MP should considering stepping down. Murphy isn't holding out much hope for that outcome though, because "this is Parliament and he's Rob Anders."

Murphy's attack comes as Anders is facing a fresh wave of controversy sparked by a petition filed by the MP regarding the use of bathrooms by transgender people. You can check out the details of that story and other infamous Anders gaffes in the slideshow below.
