Busy holiday weekend for B.C. travellers

Motorists heading south to the United States over the holiday long weekend were warned to expect long waits at the border on Saturday.

By 4 p.m. PT, the wait was down to about 30 minutes at most border crossings. But for much of the day, waits at Peace Arch, Pacific Highway, Lynden and Sumas were over an hour.

Conditions were quieter at BC Ferries terminals for most of the day.

The heaviest traffic was on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route, which had a one-sailing wait for earlier in the morning but cleared up by 3 p.m.

BC Ferries warned the busiest sailings Saturday would be from the Lower Mainland to Vancouver Island.

Traffic is expected to be busy in the other direction Monday as travellers return home from visiting the island.
