Kamloops Crash Kills Truck Drivers

Posted: Updated:

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The body of a second driver killed in a fiery crash near Kamloops has been recovered.

Both drivers were died around 7 p.m. Friday night when a logging truck and a semi-truck collided on Highway 5-A, between Kamloops and Merritt.

The trucks burst into flame and while the body of one driver was pulled from the wreckage Friday night, the heat from the resulting grass fire kept rescue crews from reaching the second body.

Coroner Barb McLintock says the identities of the drivers will not be released until family members have been notified.

The highway remained closed to all but emergency traffic until mid-day Saturday.

The regional fire centre says the blaze engulfed about 20 hectares, but crews are on site today extinguishing remaining hot spots.
