Shooting victim in Rivière-des-Prairies known to police

Montreal police are investigating an attempted murder in Montreal's Rivière-des-Prairies borough around 4 p.m. ET.

Authorities say a 23-year-old man was shot at least once in the left shoulder while sitting in a car near 57th Avenue and Fourth Street.

He made his way to a gas station near the corner of Maurice Duplessis Boulevard and Rivières-des-Prairies Boulevard where he called for help.

Witnesses say they saw a grey car flee the scene immediately after the shooting.

The man was transported to hospital in critical condition but authorities expect him to survive.

The victim is known to police as a member of a street gang.
