A B.C. teen, who killed herself after years of bullying, has sparked a debate on how to stop online attacks and provide help to victims. Her YouTube video has also left a legacy.
Amanda Todd, 15, was found dead in a Coquitlam home this week. She had used YouTube to share her story of being bullied for years despite moving schools and cities.
Todd titled her black-and-white video "My Story: Struggling, bullying, suicide and self harm." She doesn't speak in it but reveals her story a phrase at at time through cue cards.
Todd's mother said on Twitter:
The format Amanda chose to tell her story is an effective and popular one, as other young people have used music and written cards in YouTube videos to pass on their bullying experiences and urge people thinking about suicide to seek help.
A week before her death, Todd uploaded a second video after the one about her torment. This recording showcases the talented teen singing "Outside Looking In." In the YouTube description, she wrote: "This song inspires me, because it makes me feel like I'm not the only one that has been picked on, and nobody's alone."
