The Calgary centreman faked backhand and slid it forehand under the right pad of Oil King netminder Laurent Brossoit to win the shootout 2-1 in the third round.
Brooks Macek had a pair of goals for the Hitmen (5-0-2), who have won all three meetings with Edmonton this season, while Carson Samoridny and Peter Kosterman added a goal apiece.
Henrik Samuelsson had two goals for the Oil Kings (5-2-2) with Curtis Lazar and T.J. Foster each adding one.
Macek opened up the scoring three minutes into the first period, and Samoridny followed five minutes later from inside the left circle.
Back-to-back power-play goals for Edmonton tied the game at two. First it was Lazar late in the first on a give-and-go with Michael St. Croix and then eight minutes into the second, T.J. Foster's point drive found a hole through traffic.
Twenty seconds later Macek restored Calgary's lead from the high slot.
Samuelsson replied twice in under two minutes to put Edmonton up 4-3, but Kosterman's point shot two minutes later sent it to the third tied at four.
Chris Driedger stopped 32 shots for the win while Brossoit turned away 21 shots in a losing effort.
Calgary failed to score on either of its power-play chances while Edmonton went 3-for-3.
