B.C. Premier Christy Clark has released a statement on Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's decision to resign.

Clark commends McGuinty's years of service and praised his record as Canada's "longest-serving Premier."

McGuinty served as leader of the Ontario Liberal party for 16 years and as was elected the province's premier in 2003.

McGuinty stepped down Monday amid a scandal over the cancellation of two power plants in the Greater Toronto Area. Ontario's legislature has also been prorogued.

B.C. Premier Christy Clark's full statement below:

"Premier Dalton McGuinty has served his province and our country

with distinction for many years and will be missed around the

Premiers' table.

"As the longest-serving Premier in Canada he helped build consensus,

always striving to unite Canadians rather than divide.

"He conducted himself with dignity and a generosity of spirit. He

deserves our admiration and respect for his tremendous contribution

to helping build Ontario and Canada.

"I wish him and his family all the best as they enter the next

chapter of their lives."
