Danielle Smith all but vanished from Alberta's political spotlight after losing the provincial election in April, and her party has since reacted to news instead of making it, developments experts call "a fumbled opportunity" and "a failure."

After a summer spent under the political radar, the 41-year-old Wildrose opposition leader reappeared last Wednesday to flip burgers in support of Alberta's beleaguered beef industry -- 24 days after the first recall on Sept. 16, and 13 days after officials suspended production at the XL Foods plant in Brooks.
