CALGARY - A Calgary man has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison for using a stolen vehicle as a weapon.

Louie Bear was driving erratically through Calgary in September 2010, before he pulled into a parking lot and was surrounded by police.

He accelerated towards the officers, at which point they fired shots at him.

Bear was injured and was treated for his injuries.

Bear will get two years credit for time served, meaning he will be eligible for parole in 18 months.

He has also been deemed a long-term offender, which means he will be subjected to various programs and community supervision once he is released.
