Police investigate fatal shooting in Saint-Sauveur

A 27-year-old man has been shot dead at a construction site in Saint-Sauver, about 75 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

Police said they were called to the scene near the corner of St-Denis Avenue and Chemin du Lac-Millette after citizens reported hearing shots at around 1 p.m on Thursday.

"Police officers and emergency units were on the scene. We found a man who was lying in a pool of blood," said provincial police spokesman Benoît Richard. "The man was transported to the hospital, where sadly he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival over there."

Richard said police don't have leads on any possible suspects, but officers stayed at the scene late into the evening interviewing potential witnesses.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Police said that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday, and investigators may be ready to reveal the victim's identity later that day.
