Medicine Hat Police are investigating what's believed to be a murder-suicide involving two men.

Inspector Glen Motz says it was likely the result of a fight.

“At this time investigators believe the motive to be a result of a dispute as the victim and the deceased subject were known to one another," Motz said.

Police were called to a home Friday evening and found a 44-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Unfortunately when police arrived he was in medical distress inside the residence and so our police officers brought him outside so he could receive immediate medical attention in a safe environment and as I understand it, he was unable to communicate at that time,” Motz said.

He was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police say the body of a 54-year-old man was also found at the home and it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Autopsies will be done on Monday in Calgary.
