INVERNESS, N.S. - A Nova Scotia politician says he would support the creation of a port authority for the Strait of Canso.

Allan MacMaster, the Conservative member of the legislature for Inverness, says a port authority would help create jobs and spur economic activity.

He says it would also open the door for port infrastructure funding.

MacMaster says he has sent a letter to the municipal action committee and Central Nova MP Peter MacKay in hopes of generating discussion on the issue.
